Greetings, I am Terrance McNeil, an experienced educator with a passion for helping young people of all backgrounds. I have a strong belief in my duty to empower the next generation with all of the skills and knowledge I have acquired. I believe that my knowledge and ability to work with a diverse array of people makes me a great candidate for a variety of positions. I have been teaching since 1995 and working with the Leon County School system since 2003. Before substitute teaching I worked at Fairview middle school with Mr. Roger Pinholster and Dr. Nancy Henning and provided years of exceptional educational enrichment activities through my company, Horizons Educational Programming. I eventually secured contracts to provide services to ten schools in Leon and Gadsden counties. It was this work that caught the attention of the City of Tallahassee where I was hired as director of the Apalachee Ridge Technology Learning Center, my current position. Under my leadership we have closed the digital divide and attracted national attention by creating cutting edge models for teaching technology and community organizing. I am looking for a leadership position that will empower me to continue doing good works for students inside or outside of the classroom. My work with the One Economy Corporation and the Comcast Corporation to create the Digital Connectors program in Tallahassee was a high point in my career. This assignment helped me to become a leader in the local fight against the digital divide. It was also this work that prompted me to further my education in the field of educational media design and technology. I was able to hone my skills as a community organizer while picking up new teaching skills through the Cisco Systems Networking Academy and the outstanding Digital Connectors curriculum. In the future I would like to study international education in a doctoral program and close the digital divide worldwide. I will use a variety of teaching methods in my work that will make learning interesting and fun. I will empower my students to be responsible and knowledgeable. New technology has made it possible to interact with students in the digital world better than ever before. Using classroom networking software I will offer my students a computer lab experience that they have never seen before. My curriculum while in keeping with common core standards will challenge my students to develop a holistic understanding of how their learning impacts themselves and the world. Realizing that students learn differently, I will work hard to find where each student is most comfortable and explore all the possibilities of meeting their individual needs. I will also work closely with parents to ensure their students are on the correct path to learning. The concept map below shows my educational methodology for addressing Howard Gardner’s multiple learning theory. I am also a corporate trainer and a digital media instructor, with a masters degree from Full Sail University in Education Media Design and Technology. This program has taught me how to integrate technology into a school curriculum. I would be happy to teach these skills to other teachers. I recently passed the FTCE for Social Studies grades 6-12. I have a passion for Social Studies, History and Digital Media. I am most interested in finding a place to utilize my unique set of skills in the development of our youth. At Florida A&M I was a conference champion in Track and Field and have excellent skills as a track, football and basketball coach.
